A loss that brought younger adults into the conversation
Chadwick Boseman died from colorectal cancer in 2020 at 43. The National Cancer Institute has discussed his death in the context of growing concern about cancers diagnosed before age 50.
His story should not become speculation about his private medical decisions. Public accounts cannot explain an individual's diagnosis or tell us what would have changed their outcome.
Turn awareness into a conversation
A young age does not rule out colorectal cancer. Blood in the stool, persistent bowel changes, or unexplained weight loss should be discussed with a clinician. Symptom evaluation is different from screening before symptoms appear.
A place to start
Ask about your family history and screening plan, and describe changes you have noticed. Our guides explain the difference between screening and diagnostic care. This remembrance does not imply endorsement by Boseman’s family or estate.
