Bringing a camera to the conversation
In 2022, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney shared their colonoscopy experiences through LEAD FROM BEHIND, a campaign powered by the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. The campaign made screening part of a public conversation, with humour as an entry point.
This was a screening-awareness campaign, not an announcement that either actor had colorectal cancer. A polyp finding is not automatically a cancer diagnosis.
What can you take from it?
It is reasonable to ask practical questions: What does preparation involve? What sedation is offered? Do I need a ride home? Who explains the findings? Your own clinic’s instructions and your medical history determine the plan.
One example, not a universal test choice
Colonoscopy is one screening option. Other tests may be appropriate depending on your history and clinical guidance. An abnormal result on a non-colonoscopy screening test generally needs follow-up colonoscopy.
